One of the most asked questions to high schoolers is “What college would you like to go to?”. Most of us probably say the most common answers like Stanford or UCLA. But is this school actually the right fit for you? How do you figure out what colleges are right for you?
The most common “filtering” process is cost, proximity to home, and the jolly “vibe” of the college. While all of these are worth considering, how do we actually look beyond just the surface level thinking?
Start by creating a list of things that are “MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU” . Some of the factors can be : access to research resources, focus of the college ( research or arts, grooming future leaders of the world, or cultural values),or the access to professors and teaching staff inside and outside the classroom. Once you have this list, you can start ranking each college against these factors.
Remember, all the institutions publish their research work, their top priority projects, their class structure, and other important things they focus on, on their website. If you can’t find the answers for what you are looking for, it’s a great opportunity to reach out to a college counselor, for your area, from the university.
These small things can help show the colleges the genuineness of your interest in that college.
Your questions to them are not going to be shallow or commonly asked; they are going to have a deeper engagement and eagerness to want to learn more about that college.
Continue to research and rank the colleges on your list. Finally choose the one that emerges as the true winner.!! We wish you the best to get into the college of your dreams.
