Nailing the perfect college essay

By: Shadvi Aravindh

The start of college applications process can be very daunting:the stress of picking the right set of colleges and putting together a compelling application package – essays, activities, awards and honors- can all become too much to handle. It’s even more stressful coming out of the Junior year which probably sucked out all your energy.

Summer is the best time to start thinking about what you want to write about. You may want to write about overcoming a challenge, expound a unique experience, or simply write about a personal passion – anywhere from studying the various varieties of grass to the number of transistors that can be packed on a chip. The most important thing here is that you write- write without editing, write without second guessing yourself, and write without any attention to grammar. Create this “master” brain dump file.

As the days progress, you can use this brain dump to pick out pieces that you like and build off of those. So, before we publish our next article, get those “brain dumps” ready. We will meet you again in a week to share more tips on how to to use this brain dump and nail your perfect essay.

As an extra tip for those who are rising Juniors, start a list – write down your favorite experience, sometime that you read and loved, something or someone who inspired you or about any moment in your life that made you pause and think.

We know all of this can be overwhelming. That’s why it’s important to take a deep breath, go watch the Spider-man across the Spider-Verse, in theaters near you. Once you are all refreshed, go to your laptop or notepad  and the ideas will flow.!!

Good Luck. We cant wait to hear about how this process worked for you. Tell us in the comments on our instagram page. #gethyperconnected.
